Duke Nukem 3D is remembered by PC fans as one of the big sucessors of Doom. Apart from the features already known in Doom, Duken Nukem added a new style which accompanied all the action and confered an unique character to the game made by 3D Realms: the main character is already not only a hard guy but also a thug babes-lover whom he saves from aliens which are not demons but mutant creatures; these arouse disgust above all. Scenarios are not internal or external, which some or other tree as a background: here the action is held at a cinema, in a metro station, in the bathrooms, in a burguer, inside a ship, or in a rugby stadium... The weapons are the typical, excluding the expander which makes an enemy explode at the time it is possible to hear the typical tone of a microwave...
Duke Nukem set a style. The levels and the scenarios, the maps and the mix of action and puzzle, everything present in that game was very well created... Moreover, in my humble opinion, the Nintendo 64 version is the best one. Apart from graphical improvements with respect to the PC game (and apart from playing it with the N64 pad), the game includes a cooperative mode where two players cooperate to get keep on advancing level by level. In addition to this, the single game is frankly fun. And there's another option included, the 'Dukematch', which is the best Multiplayer option for any shoot'm up ever seen (apart from the one present in Perfect Dark) where four players fight against each other on real scenarios of the game or on others ad hoc, like a castle, a submarine, etc. .
Duke Nukem is not only a big single game but it also gets a place in the elite scale of fun games in any console where Perfect Dark, Unirally, Football Manager and Age of Empires II on the net, or Mario Party or anyone of those wonderful dice games for MSX like Rune Master or Witch's Revenge are.
Duke Nukem 64 is really easy to control. Each function has its button assigned but it is almost impossible to get in a fuss with them thanks to the functionality of the N64 pad and to the intuitive functionality of each button in the relevant context.
In respect of the sound, there is music only in the intro and the only sound anyone can hear when they play are the shoots or the growls of the enemies when the enemies attack or die, the only thing needed to splash aliens indeed!
The best of Duke Nukem 64 is the multiplayer mode Dukematch and also the length of the single game. Secret areas and levels, 4 levels of difficulty make the game eternal and superb!
There is not any clear negative point... Maybe the fact that very few people know the advantages of this version compared to the rest!
